There is a category of work that punishes a big pod. A face-frame stile, a drawer front stood on edge, a length of narrow trim. The part is barely wider than the thing meant to hold it. Reach for a full-size vacuum pod and it runs out of surface to seal against. So the narrow work gets clamped, then re-clamped, then held by hand while you try to work around your own grip. Call it outgripping the work: the piece is too small for the hold you own.
The BenchGrip Akros FORG3D Edition is built for exactly that work.
What it is
Akros is a BenchGrip kit built on four Harpyie Minimus pods, the smaller, elongated pod in the BenchGrip line. Where a wide pod wants a wide surface, the Harpyie Minimus reaches along a narrow one. It takes hold of the narrow stock, stiles, and face frames the rest of the bench fights to grip, and with four of them you spread the hold across a long, skinny part instead of pinching it in a single spot.
Everything to run it is in the case, and every part comes from FORG3D:
-
Four Harpyie Minimus pods
-
Eight AnchorDogs with hardware
-
Rail inserts with hardware
-
Linking tubing
-
A FORG3D Edition Systainer³ S 76 with a precision fitout cut to the kit
Simply add a vacuum source and you are ready to work. The Akros runs off a standard vacuum pump, or a Grabo-style vacuum lifter paired with a Nexus Baseplate.
Why we built it
Akros is the third BenchGrip FORG3D Edition, alongside Verso and Max. The three answer the same question, how to hold work on the bench without clamp hardware in the way, for three different kinds of work.
Verso is the all-rounder, the set that covers the widest range of everyday holding. Max is the max-hold set, built around the large Maximus pods for the heaviest grip on wide panels. Akros sits at the other end of that range: purpose built narrow work. The pods optimize for narrow stock applications and can be setup for either horizontal or vertical work with the included accessories. Akros is Greek for the edge, the extremity, the tip, and this is the set that lives out there, at the parts of the work the big pods don't fit.
Why it ships as a FORG3D Edition
A FORG3D Edition is a complete setup where every part in the box comes from FORG3D: the pods, the accessories, the hardware, the storage, and a fitout engineered to hold it. It arrives as a system, not a parts list. You open the case and the kit is already the answer, sized and sorted, ready to set on the bench.
That is the pattern Verso and Max established, and Akros extends it to a third kind of bench. The three Editions share the same Systainer³ S 76 format, the same accessory language, and the same family of pods and hardware underneath, so they are not three separate products so much as three entry points into one system. Start with the one that fits your work, and the next one stacks onto it.
What this actually means
Akros is built for narrow work, and that focus is the point. Four Harpyie Minimus pods placed with intent punch above their weight, enabling work with larger panels when Verso or Max are not yet in your kit.
Where it fits in the system
BenchGrip is the bench-holding arm of the SYS-GRP workholding system. If most of your work is wide and flat, start with Verso or Max. If the parts that slow you down are the narrow ones, the stiles, the trim, the face frames that never sit still, Akros is the set built for them. Whichever you start with, the Systainers stack, the accessories cross over, and the workflow compounds.
Akros ships this week. The wider look at how the Editions differ, and which one to start from, is in the BenchGrip comparison right behind it.
