Half-height bins
The half-height bin came out of an early FORG3D problem: rapid prototyping and small-batch manufacturing work that required a lot of different small fasteners, but not many of any single type.
Full-height bins are built for volume. When you're running a small assortment of many fastener types across multiple active projects, full-height bins work against you — you're either dumping everything out to get to what's at the bottom, or you're doing the chopstick fingers reach and hoping you pull the right thing. Neither is fast, and in a prototyping cycle you're doing it constantly.
Half-height bins solve the retrieval problem by cutting the depth, not the footprint. Same grid position in the organizer, shallower reach, full visibility of what's inside from above. Two half-heights stack in the same vertical space as one full-height when you need the density; or you can run them single-height for layouts where fast access matters more than maximizing bin count.
The other dimension is color. SYS-ORG bins are available in a range of colors, and half-height bins take full advantage of that — a color-coded organizer turns a visual scan into an instant answer. Metric hardware in one color, imperial in another, project-specific fasteners in a third. No labels required. You know what you're reaching for before your hand moves. Bit Channel bins
The Bit Channel bin came from a specific job. We were doing an installation and grabbed a fastener bin from the organizer — specialty hardware for a bracket system — and carried it up three flights of stairs to where the work was happening. Reached in. The bit that drove those fasteners wasn't in the bin.
Three flights back down. Found the bit. Three flights back up.
Started the next anchor. The drill bit for that step wasn't in that bin either.

At that point the problem was clear: the bins were organized, but the bits that made them usable weren't traveling with them. You could look into a bin and confirm the fasteners were there, but nothing told you the driver was missing until you needed it.
Bit Channel bins add a dedicated channel visible at the top of the bin, and obviously absent when it's not there. Grab the bin to go do the work. If the channel is empty, you know before you move. The fastener and the bit that drives it leave the organizer together or they don't leave at all.
Multi-division configurations take this further. Wall anchors in one compartment, fasteners in another — with a drill bit for the pilot hole and a driver bit for the fasteners both in the channel. Everything the job needs in one bin. You grab it and go.
Nine configurations cover the range from compact 50 mm singles to 125 mm long-side two-division bins. Single-division for focused storage; two-division layouts for bins where you're separating fastener types or pairing two bit-driven hardware types side by side.
Bit Cassette bins
The Bit Cassette bin started with a simple goal: bit storage inside a half-height bin. The first instinct was to build a magnetic retention system — custom geometry to hold bits in place inside the bin itself. We got far enough into it to know it was solvable, then stopped and asked the more useful question: why build something the Systainer ecosystem already has?
Festool and Tanos Bit Cassettes are a standard the whole system is already built around. They live in the lid attic, they hold a full set of bits, and a lot of people already own them. The problem wasn't the cassette. The problem was that cassettes living in the attic couldn't easily move into an organizer grid or a drawer when you wanted them there. Building a bin that accepts them directly solved that without asking anyone to abandon hardware they already bought.
Bit Cassette bins snap into standard Systainer3 M 89 and L 89 organizer grid slots and accept Festool / Tanos Bit Cassettes directly — no adapters. The same cassette moves from lid attic to organizer bin to Sortainer drawer to SYS-Combi drawer with a SYS-GRD insert and back, without losing its place in the system. The color dimension applies here too. A blue bin with a bit cassette is metric in our shop. Red is imperial. Orange is cabinet-specific hardware — fitting, since Blum and Salice both use orange in their product identity. Festool green for Centrotec bits.
The cassette becomes another layer in the visual organization system, not a separate thing to manage.
